Skin Lesions

Skin lesions can take the form of warts, skin tags or age spots – unsightly and bothersome conditions that can appear on the face or body. Skin lesions are very common and are generally harmless, although many people seek removal due to their cosmetic appearance. Fortunately, they are surprisingly straightforward to treat.

What causes skin lesions?

Skin tags are typically caused by skin friction so are commonly seen where the skin folds or where clothing items may frequently rub such as the neck, groin and armpits. Warts, on the other hand are small lumps on the surface of the skin which typically occur on the fingers, knuckles and palms and feel firm to the touch. They may also occur on the feet in the form of verrucae and while warts on the hand do not tend to cause pain, verrucae can feel like you’re constantly standing on a needle. Warts are caused by strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) and they can spread easily through skin to skin contact and may also be passed on directly such as on shoes or floors.

What is the best removal method?

At 23MD, we use the highly effective Cryopen® system which utilises Cryotherapy to freeze small, isolated areas of the skin. This state-of-the-art device uses accurate pen-point precision to deliver liquid nitrogen to injure the target site and help the skin to regenerate. Once treated, it causes the cells to die and the skin will darken and forms a crust, which is gradually shed over the coming days or weeks. It is a highly effective option for tackling various forms of skin lesions.

What is the treatment process?

As with all our procedures, your journey will begin with a comprehensive consultation and assessment with a highly trained practitioner who will explain the procedure, recovery, likely outcomes and costs. The procedure itself is very quick and painless and you will be invited back for a follow up appointment after two weeks.
