Excessive Sweating Treatment London
The effects of excess sweating, also known as Hyperhydrosis, can range from mild irritation to severe distress. Sweating is the body’s natural cooling mechanism, but when the body produces more sweat than is necessary, this is known as Hyperhidrosis. Overactive sweat glands commonly occur in the underarms, on the scalp and on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet; and can be exacerbated by several physical and emotional factors.
At 23MD, we provide effective relief from Hyperhydrosis using injections of Medical Botulinum Toxin A (Botox®). Injected into the skin at the problem area, Botox relaxes the sweat glands located just under the skin. These sweat glands normally produce sweat, which then travels up the sweat duct and out through the pores onto the surface of the skin. When the sweat glands are in a more relaxed state, they no longer over produce sweat and, as a result, excessive sweating is no longer experienced. Optimum results take effect after approximately 1-2 weeks, with excessive sweating reduced for approximately 4-6 months.
Hyperhidrosis can disrupt daily activities, such as the clothes you choose to wear, the way you travel to work, the environments in which you can speak publicly. It can become quite a significant burden. If severe sweating is getting in the way of your life or causing embarrassment and antiperspirants aren’t working, you may be a suitable candidate for Hyperhydrosis treatment with Medical Botulinum Toxin A (Botox®). If you decide not to have further treatment, your sweating will gradually return to its pre-treated state.
IS IT PAINFUL?
The injections are relatively painless and may feel like a small pin prick. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand to make the procedure more comfortable.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
The treat is very straightforward and there is no downtime so patients can return to their normal daily activities straight away.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
The treatment is usually very effective, resulting in an almost complete halting of underarm or facial sweating that can last up to six months from just one treatment session. The injections take 1-2 weeks to take effect, with results lasting for up to six months. It is important to note that Botox injections for hyperhidrosis is not a cure. Symptoms will eventually return, and further treatments will be required.
