BELKYRA® is a treatment used to reduce the size of a double chin. It melts away fat to improve neck and jawline. Although it has been popular for a number of years in the USA, where it is known as Kybella®, BELKYRA® at 23 MD in London is a new treatment available to the UK from February  2021.

What is a Belkyra® treatment?

Belkyra is a non-surgical injectable treatment used to reduce the size of a double chin. It results in  a  permanently slimmer neck and  jaw line. It utilises MHRA approved ingredients to destroy fat cells.  Compared to higher prices and risks attached to surgical options (such as liposuction or neck lifts), this treatment offers clear advantages for the patient.

How long Belkyra® treatment take at 23MD in London?

We apply a numbing cream to combat some of the discomfort that may occurs when the product is administered. Throughout the Belkyra® treatment, the doctor will gently administer a series of injections along the chin and jaw line. At 23 MD we also use a cooling treatment to make the process more comfortable. The treatment may take 15-20 minutes. Each patient receives a unique after-care plan. Each Treatment can involve up to 50 injections in order to treat the whole area evenly and comprehensively. For best results, doctors may recommend a course of treatments with up to 6 sessions 3-4 weeks apart.

What is recovery from Belkyra® like?

During the first 3-5 days following a Belkyra® injection, the body will dissolve and expel the fat. Side effects such as redness, irritation, swelling and some discomfort while swallowing should be expected. These usually subside within about 3 – 5 days, as your body adjusts to the injectable. We advise patients to have this procedure done on a Friday. This allows some time for the swelling to settle over the weekend. We recommend that patients take Ibuprofen and wear neck garments to mask visible swelling and promote comfort. Most patients (over 63%) who undergo Belkyra injections are satisfied after just 2 to 4 injection sessions. However up to 6 sessions 3-4 weeks apart can be safely delivered.

How long do Belkyra® results last?

Since fat cells are permanently destroyed by Belkyra®, they are eliminated forever and can no longer accumulate fat. This makes the success rate highly optimal. The procedure is designed to offer a slimmer jaw line and permanent results.  However, you should keep stable body weight and healthy diet to maintain the results. . Who shouldn’t have Belkyra®?

Women who are breastfeeding or currently pregnant are not suitable candidates for Belkyra®. Let us know if you have a history if easy bruising. Also if you’re currently on any blood-thinners like warfarin, heparin, aspirin, supplements like omega 3 and vit C. If you, please discuss this treatment further with your surgeon.  have recently undergone surgery around the chin or neck region. Can we combine Belkyra® with other procedures?

Belkyra® can be combined with Coolscupting® for further fat reduction to  reduce the size of a Double Chin , Laser procedures for skin-tightening as well as Utherapy®. These are better done either before or after the treatment, but not on the same day.  For optimal healing, Dr. Kersh recommends against having treatments performed in conjunction with Belkyra on the same day. However, cooling process during the injections provide extra comfort during treatment.

How soon can I receive Belkyra® injections at 23MD in London?

Belkyra® is now approved in the UK, however only a few doctors have been trained to deliver Belkyra safely. Dr Kersh is now offering London Belkyra® treatments.
