If too much collagen is created, the skin becomes raised and acne scars start to appear. By contrast, not enough collagen leads to pitting and indentation of the affected skin.

Will my acne scars fade over time?

This depends on the severity of the acne and the scarring. In most cases, mild acne scars will fade over time. However, if there are deep holes or depressions in the surface of the skin, it is likely that a cosmetic acne scar treatment will be needed to improve their appearance.
